Try to just add a multiply blend mode layer and paint the black mask to reduce the eye glare.
She's too cute!!! :)

The eyes looked great as was, they loose their pop in the edit.

Added a soft light layer for the eyes only... Is this what you're after?

Sorry, but none of the edits look better than the original. I know there is a slight glare in her right eye, and you can edit the right eye in different ways, but I don't think it will help much.

It's always easy to criticize other people's attempts, but much harder to put your neck out there. Care to show us how to do it, Zerovision?

I think it was mentioned previously that the orig is fine and great as it is but the TS wanted a darker eye... Maybe the TS thinks the original photo doesn't represent how the cute kid's eyes really look like?

My attempt:
Dodge layer around the iris at 85% opacity and a burn layer around the black parts of the iris and the pupil at 69% opacity.

See if you think this is better.

Here is an edited version with a softbox catch light added.

The softbox catch light still does not look a lot better.

I think the eyes loook great in the original. I have struggled with Elements myself. Scott Kelby's book ~The Photoshop Elements Book for Digital Photographers~ helped me A LOT. There are also some online tutorials for Elements, too but I do better with a book in front of me. I only try to do minimal PP to my pictures though. I admire you showing us so much of your work. I'm still hesitant to post and open myself up to the criticism! But I guess I should start, I am anxious to improve.

I think, from reading all the posts and looking at all the edits, that the original didn't need tampering with, and there was nothing wrong with the original eyes.

Your not a real POTN'er till you post a pic :D it smites at first sometimes, you could run away and hide, or stay here, post shots and learn.
Looking forward to your first shot posted, PM me to let me know.

Ok I don't see why you need this picture edited, you got excellent light in her eyes and that's what people strive for, you got great catchlights! If you take the catchlights out they will look dull.
