I'm getting a 20D, and I'm trying to convince my brother to get a Digital Rebel. How compatible are lenses? What lenses made for the 20D work for the Digital Rebel, and vica versa?

The only lenses the cameras can use are ones with Canon EF and EF-S mounts. Both cameras can use these lenses.

20D, 300D and 350D fit EF lens very much. I haven't got any problem in compatibility of the Canon lens with the Canon cameras.

That's 'only' a few hundred or so....

Let's use a different formulation ... they can use ALL autofocus lenses made for the Canon system  Those are either called EOS or EF lenses. You can NOT use Canon FD or FL lenses, those are old lenses without autofocus capability.

While all genuine Canon EOS and EF lenses are 100% compatible to the cameras, many older lenses made by third-party manufacturers (Tamron, Sigma, Tokina, Quantaray, Cosina, Phoenix, Vivitar, ...) might not work because they are not 100% compatible with the newer Canon cameras.

Via adapters, you can also use a variety of very cheap Pentax, Nikon, medium format lenses, but those will be manual lenses (no autofocus).

Best regards,
Andy
