This little beauty made me work for it. I got a total of 7 shots of her over a 3 hour period. She just wouldn't stop fussing. If mom put her down, she cried like crazy. If she wasn't swaddled, she cried too. Mom says that nobody in the family can hold her without her crying. :( I could have easily dealt with the situation, except that mom forbid me from taking any pictures of her with the baby, and wanted to show all the baby skin. She wanted the baby alone. period. :( :(
I got this one right after mom pulled away the blanket and just before she started yelling.

Great, great work. Love the tonality--and the toning--subtle sepia or desaturated?

Thanks for the feedback.
Christopher,
It is a conversion to B&W, with a copper toning added.

Great shot! Sometimes you do not get a lot of shots with newborns, but even when you dont, sometimes you still end up with at least 1 great shot.

I just did a baby like that! You'd think they'd be sleeping all the time. But uh no!
Love the picture. Atleast you got a really nice one!

Very cute picture Brian, and I love the colouring. Your blacks appear black which is great.
My only criticism is the hand on the right of the image ends to sharply for my liking.

I am fairly new to this type of shooting. Can you share where you light source was/what type it is and what settings you used? I would love to take these types of shots on location at people's houses and I wanted to get the scoop on how to do that.

Thanks so much.
As for how I light:
I spent a very long time learning the quality and quality of lighting in studio. What it comes down to it, though is practice. I honestly don't think about it anymore as it has become second nature. I mostly concern myself with placing a key light in a flattering position, and then worry about the ratio for fill if needed. Other than that, and determining light falloff, I don't put much thought into it.
