Most of the portrait work I have posted here has been black/dark background stuff. That's what I like. I had to shoot a simple pose of a kid who is on the Indiana All Star team against a white background for a program ad so thought I would post an example.

Well done - you were able to achieve separation from the background even with his white uniform - very nicely done!

Looks great, what are you using for your backdrop and light setup?

Thanks for the nice comments. This was a new setup for me so am happy to get positive feedback.

I give full credit to the efforts of Zack Arias who wrote a great how-to on this type of shot. Here is the link. http://www.zarias.com/?p=71

I used a 9' white seamless background and the white tileboard and bi fold doors just like he outlines. I used (2) Elinchrom 600RX with small reflectors for the background light and (2) 600RX's with 32x40 soft boxes for the front light. I used two soft boxes instead of one like Zack describes mainly because I left my boom arm at home and wanted to be sure I had good even lighting across the subject. Exposure at the background was f/11 and front lighting and exposure at the back of his head was f/8. I shot at 1/200 f/8 ISO 100, 5D MkII, 24x70 and Pocket Wizards to trigger the lights.

I want to fine tune it a bit to try and get a purer white all the way to the front but was very happy with the first attempt.

I am watching and typing at the same time. :-)

The way this series has gone, nothing matters until under :30 in Q4.
