The background seems a little off to me, would've looked good if it was plain white, are you using flash gels?

You're quite right the skin looks fine, just the background is odd!

At first glance it looks as though the white balance is extremely blue for the subject... but the shoulder doesn't look as bad. Maybe a less blue background might help lessen the impact?
