I was playing with light again, this time through the shoot through brolly. My little boy decided to join the party also and perform for the camera, just after his bath on his towel.

I will post the setup after for those who are interested.

The shots are cute, but a little too bright and blown out. He is adorable though.

I wonder if you can help with what you see, as I don't see the blow outs, other then on the white towel.

Defiantly agree way to blown out. Can you post the originals. Are those also really blown out like these?

I think they are all really adorable and if adjusted correctly can become a very great photo. I took your top photo and turned it to black & white.

Here is what i did.

1. I opened the file in adobe photoshop into the adobe raw dialog box. In the basic tab all i did was click the auto icon to adjust the brightness & contrast. I also adjust the color slightly by sliding down the tint tab to the left about -20 and I then also brought down the temperature slider to about a -2.
Next, i tabbed over to the tone curve tab and adjusted Highlights, Lights, Darks and shadows till it looked about right.

2. I then opened the file up into photoshop and added a gradient map to change it to black and white.

3. Next i sharpened the photo a little using the highpass filter by duplicated the layer and adding a 2px highpass to the duplicate layer. I then brought the opacity of that layer down to about 60.

That is about all i did.

The idea is great and the baby is adorable, but these are way too light and blown out.
Babies have this beautiful incredible skin tone, but the brightness doesn't allow you to see any of that on these shots.

I made a quick attempt in CS3 to correct, but cannot upload it. (?)
