Had my second case of broken equipment today. Broke my nifty fifty. I smacked it on something getting into my car with the camera hanging round my neck (Dumb) and it pulled the front element off. Luckily it was not an expensive lens. I was more worried about the body though (I still am) and that the mount was not bent or pulled. It seems OK but won't really know until I do some pixel peeping. I am too pooped to do the testing now though.

I wish my handyman skills were better. I tried to take it apart and made a mess of it. Oh well. If it was an expensive lens and looked salvageable I would just take it in and get a pro to repair it.

BTW the first time I did something that stupid was when I had only just had my 450D for a few weeks. I tried to clean the viewfinder focusing screen with a lens pen lol. Totalled it.

Anyone got any horror stories of broken equipment? I bet there is already a thread or more about this but my search skills suck so apologise in advance if this is a dupe.

Yeah.. I dropped my Nikon F off a crane track onto a roll of conveyor belting then it slid onto a concrete floor.. Happened in the early '80s when I was shooting industrial stuff..

A few dings in the body, crack in one of the pentaprism mirrors but everything else was fine.. Those old Nikons were damn tough cameras..BTW,,I still have the F but it's now retired from use..
