how can i tell if my new XT has any focus issues?

I've seen a billion threads here and there where people are setting up and photographing charts and tape measures, and i just don't want to go there.

i'm asking because i'm not entirely happy with the shots i've been getting with my XT that i think should come out fine. i can post some when i get home from work, if that helps.

so are there any simple tests i can do to see if it's me or my camera, without getting all anal about it?

Simple test. Follow instructions exactly.
Its still a a place you said you don't want to go but other than that if the pic looks good it is, if it looks bad to you it is. You still got to take a pic of something to test a lens.
