Yep so I was at Brands (for a change lol) for the Masters Historic Festival. Due to other commitments I could only did Saturday and Monday. Weather stayed good, Saturday was particularly hot early doors. Monday was challenging, mainly due to a blister the size of a 50p on the middle of my hand *sobs*

Anyway I'll get on with some pics. Here's a few compressed "forum friendly sized" photos (800px !!!) for comment... all shot with 40D's and a 100-400 or 24-105:

#1 Vovo? ...

#2 Nice drift, but it ended in a spin...

#3 VERY LOUD, forgot how LOUD these things were, full chat out of Surtees without ear protection wooooo...

#4 Bit different for me, heading towards Westfield...

#5 Cue Murray Walker "GO GO GO"...

#6 Oopsy...

#7 Racing through Paddock...

#8 This little Lotus ended the day upside down in the Paddock gravel (aftermath pics in my gallery - thankfully driver ok, but was stuck in the car, marshals did a great job as there were some flames too)...

Excellent shots, thanks for sharing! Did you have to crank the ISO up to get quick shutter speeds to keep them sharp? These no sign of any noise...

No 6 is my favourite :)

These look like they are very sharp, and definately lovely machinery.

I never see any paddock shots from Brands ,or pits .Are you allowed access Azza?

These are a bit disappointing for me Azza,by your usual standards, lacking some of the killer angles and background, and atmosphere, imho.

cheers. I'm not really that keen on pannaging but there are some side-on stuff in my gallery, just doesn't really show the racing so well. I put my programme somewhere rather safe so I'm not 100% sure what it is either.

cheers. I generally keep shutter speed around 1/320sec and work from there. ISO to suit, generally I try to keep ISO as low as possible to reduce noise. 40D is pretty good with noise control up to about ISO 800.

cheers, I'm glad you find them sharp at least heh  I only had a quick wander through the pits, generally don't do much pit/paddock stuff unless it is a bigger event with more going on. I think your persuasion towards hillclimb/rally toggy makes it difficult to comment on most circuit racing shots as there isn't the same options for doing something "different" without going silly with the shutter or tilting the camera, both of which I'm not that keen on. I agree though, maybe I should spent a little more time in the pits/paddock, there is definitely some extra to be had there.

cheers for the comments :D

1/320? That'll be why my pans aren't sharp then. Trying to do them at around 1/80 :)

Damn the screen on my 400D, they looked alright on there, even when zoomed in!

Did you have to pay extra to get into the pits, or are you one of those media chappies I saw with their white bibs?

Oh right, sorry for full side on pans I use anything below 1/250, generally around the 1/125 mark as a base, sometimes go down to 1/50 or slower. Depends on focal length and subject though - just use what you feel comofortable with and what gives you the most consistant results.

When I first got the 40D I remember not liking the screen, kind of got used to it now though. Zoomed in I would expect to be able to tell whether the image is good or not.

Public can access the paddock anytime (via Hailwoods or the new gate things to the left). Pitlane is restricted though. And yep I did have a white bib this weekend.

cheers :D
