Quicky question here.. When you create a copyright signature for your images that will be printed, where do you typically locate the signature. Do you offset it enough so that it will be displayed once a matte and frame are attached or does the customer usually prefer that it is on the edge so that they can cover it up? Thanks.

It'd be nice to hear thoughts from people who sell plenty. I don't sell much, but my thing is to stick a business card in the corner of a frame. At the front so anyone can take it. Not sure if it works, not been doing it very long. :)

I don't sell prints, but what I have seen out there is a small and subtle signature in the corner. A lot of prints come with a simple mat already attached. I've also seen a penciled signature on the mat.

On the back. I refuse to pollute my photo, and the photo that a customer is paying for with a goofy signature on the photo. The only time I would consider doing that is if the customer desired it. Otherwise, a label goes on the back of the photo.

I don't know how others handle it, but when I mat and frame my work for sale, or as a gift, I usually sign and date the mat somewhere near the bottom edge of the print--not actually on the print. I ink stamp copyright information on the rear of the print before inserting the backer board, and then I permanently attach a business card to the centre back of the finished article.

Terry
