View Full Version : My first try at rodeo

Well I thought I would give the night time rodeo a try. I had planned on renting a 70-200 2.8IS but they overbooked and gave the a 80-200 2.8 for free. I could have used the IS but for a first try at nighttime, outdoor under the lights I didn't think I did to bad with a 300D.
I know that most of these are noisy and I don't have a noise reducer so be kind and tell me what you think. Oh yeah, and if you could recommend noise reducing software, what would it be?

As soon as I get some of the Bull riders processed I'll add those to my gallery.
Thanks in advance for your comments.

I like that second shot - great capture.
Noise Ninja or Neat Image seem to be the most popular, but I've not used them myself.

Very good pictures. That has to be a hard thing to do.
I personally use Neat Image for noise image. It works really well.

Lighting seemed a bit bad in the place...nothing you can do there. Great captures.

Thanks everybody. I'll have to look into the niose software.
I forgot to mention that most all my shots were at iso 1600, very noisy on the 300D.

Tough shooting. You did a good job.
Here's another vote for Neat Image. Can't beat the price - free.

I've never tried shooting rodeos myself, but those pics look great. I like the second one the best.
I bet that strobe ticks off the horses, though! :D

RawShooter has adjustable noise reduction built in.

I used Neat Image for a couple of years, but have found Noise Ninja to be better overall.
BTW you did a fine job of capturing the action...

I've never even been to a rodeo. The shots are great. Maybe I'll have to catch the National Western next year!

As before comments appreciated.
BTW, the "pros" shooting the event were using 20D's and 70-200L f/2.8 and 100-400L IS and some monster flash units.
