I posted some pictures of a yellow Lily in the Nature forum yesterday. I liked how they looked as I shot them, but I wanted to play a bit to see if I could create something like other images I've seen. This is the results of a little bit of playing.

Here I have used the smuge tool to smuge a layer and then merge it with the original layer. I actually did two smuged that were a little bit different and merged those with the original layer.

This one here, I took the above version and ran it through a program to add film grain and tonal variations.

I know others do a lot better job, but I've been wanting to play with some of this stuff for awhile. This was done in Photoshop but I would like to try doing something in Paint Shop Pro, since that seems to be the program that many excellent images are modified and created.

Anyway, I'm interested in what others think.

Thanks Roanjohn. They both looked pretty good printed off... the 2nd one I printed on fine art paper and it worked very well with it. The first one looked better on luster paper.

Thanks for looking.

That's the idea, Bloo. Noise has been added to the image as part of the process on it. The first one is actually 3 layers, 2 of which had various things done to it with the smudge tool to remove detail and create a softer image. Then these 2 images were merged with the 3rd, untouched, layer and opacity adjusted as to how much of the two adjusted layers blocked the orginal first layer. The second image had film noise dilibertly added to it and the whole image toned to reduce most of the color. I've posted some others that go for sharpness and detail, I wanted to do something different with these.

Thanks for looking.

You should have seen some noise, Bloo, since I added it. Maybe I didn't add enough. :D

Thanks
