What are people out there using? What seems to give the best results?
Cheers,
Mark.

Nailing the exposure. Now why didn't I think of that
Low ambient light settings and high ISO's. Wanting to pp the noise.
Cheers Brian for your constructive response.

I'm using the Noise Ninja plugin for photoshop.

But they have all gotten pretty good these days. Some work better than others in certain situations but none are best for all situations.

Ah in that case I use Lightroom's built-in NR. It works well enough for me without using a third party application.

I use GIMP for PP. GreyCStoration was a free noise plugin that works great, and they've now redirected the project into a very powerful plugin based on it called G'MIC Toolbox (http://gmic.sourceforge.net/gimp.shtml).

I also use Neat Image and I'm very happy with the results when my photos need noise reduction. I don't use it all the time but it is a very useful piece of software to have in your post processing arsenal.

I am using Neat Image and Noise Ninja, Neat is used probably 9 out 10 times however. It is just much more accurate, helps define detail and much less apt to strip detail from an image if applied properly, and will soften the background into a smoother bokeh if you want to run it to do that as well.

I use a home made photoshop layer method - it gives me lots of control.

It is one thing not on the web site, I'll get around to uploading my standard set of actions. The Bruce Fraser derived set are already there.
OK They are up. Note there are dependencies on other actions either of my own or freely available for download. There is no documentation, this is just an organic toolkit I change and adapt as I go on.
The noise reduction is something like Std Luminance NR. This uses surface masks and a Gaussian Filter Layer to provide the NR, but I tend to edit the mask to get exactly the effect I want. Something that sounds lengthy but isn't. I would rather control myself how sharp stuff is than let an algorithm do it.
Any colour NR I let ACR do on conversion from RAW.
