Question re: fill flash and macro

Has anyone used the on board flash for fill shooting macro? I have a 40D and was hoping for some guidance in using some fill flash. I tried it yesterday and had my FEC set to -2 and my EC set to +1 and it was still too bright, so I kept adjusting but I couldn't seem to find a good balance between the flash and some ambient light so I gave up:rolleyes:

I use it as fill flash when shooting in the sun, must use at full power in my S5

Hi Deb,
Must admit I have not tried this with the internal flash but normally assuming you are in Tv or Av modes on the camera set something like EC -.66 and then FEC -1

The onboard flash doesn't support high speed sync iirc. So you may be limiting the shutter speed to 1/200th or higher, which would cause the overexposure in bright light.
