Hi

Please could you give me some advice regarding public liability cover.

which company to get the policy from ?

The signing on proceduce at a track ?

I would appreciate any other advice you have

I might be able to photograph at a track day, so public liability cover is necessary.

Thanks in advance

Daniel :)

Daniel. It all depends on the circuit's requirements. I have to have £5m worth and Photoguard are about the best choice.

Most circuits, even with cover, will not allow you trackside unless you are acredited, even though it is a track day, not a race meeting. They are so worried about their liabilities and letting loose unknown photographers in what are very dangerous positions, they are all tightening up.

Call the press officer or circuit management and ask what you need to do.

I ask the same question about that sort of thing and Kenny kind'ly put me straight as to what was involved.

As i said in my thread i would send an email to a local track(Combe)and ask the same question. Here's the email i got back.....

I must start off by asking a couple of questions:-

1) Are you working for/submitting work to any newspapers or other publications??
2) Do you hold Motor Sports Association press acreditation??

If the answer is "No" to either or both of these, then you will not be permitted to go trackside for photography purposes. This is solely down to insurance restrictions that are in place throughout the motorsport industry.

The best thing for you to do would be to contact one of your local papers to see if they would be interested in having someone attend on their behalf to take images. The only way to get Motor Sports Association accreditation is to be working for/submitting work regularly to a publication.

Is there a minimum amount that is required? Is it always £5m or will £1m suffice?

It depends on the venue, small tracks usually around the £1-2m mark. Silverstone is then £5m.

I have 2m cover and its more piece of mind.. I keep a small printed copy in my camera bag.. In 6 yrs I haven't been asked once if I have cover let alone proof.. But I guess the day I am not covered is the day someone will want to see it ..
