New poster...could use your opinions

A good friend who is also interested in photography directed me to this forum and I have found it to be extremely helpful (and friendly!). I have a couple of photos that I would like feedback on. Both are my kids, taken with the kit lens. The one has been doctored up with the color and I know some people don't like that, but I like the look of it, that's why I did it. I've been told that they are a little flat with the lighting and I am working on that. What do you guys think? :o

I think you are doing great, keep up the posting. I actually like the PP, especially on the first one. I think it could use a bit more contrast, but thats my personal opinion ;)

For the outside shots, get someone to hold a reflector or white board, really helps.
