The panning shots were taken with a Tamron 28-75 at 75. I think a 70-200 would make shots like these easier since I had to crop most of these a bit. The last was taken with the CZ 135mm manual focus lens which I love.

Although the open wheel cars were very fast the Miatas were more fun to watch.

I like what you tried to do with the motion shots. Keep at it. Sometimes you get lucky!

A lot of it is luck. Out of the 700 shots I took only about 20-30 were sharp enough. I stayed in the 1/30-1/125 range. The yellow cobra was shot at 1/30th and part of the car actually came out sharp, although a very small part. What shutter speed and focal length is the photo you posted? Looks like something crazy slow, around 1/10th?

Crazy slower than that. Somewhere around 1/2 sec I think, but it was on film, so no exif. Focal length was around 100-200mm.
Here's some in the 1/8 - 1/30 range with slow cars. There are sharper ones I took before I got bored in the links I posted.
