I have just got a new iMac 20", and Photoshop CS. I don't really know my way around a Mac yet, so please bear with me!

When viewing a folder where I keep my pictures, I can scroll through the jpeg icons on the screen almost like a slideshow (don't know what apple call it), and they show up great. However, after I edit a photo in Photoshop, it appears very pixelated in this "slideshow" mode. The file type has changed from "jpeg" to "adobe photoshop jpeg". Is this the problem, and is there a way around it? Can photoshop save as the standard jpeg mode?

Sorry for my mac-incompetance, and I hope that made sense!

Tom

There's a test... Instead of saving file as try Save File for Web and look at the thumbnail in Cover Flow. I bet the file will look better. Now, I use Aperture 99% of the time so I'm not totally sure, but I'm guessing Photoshop is creating a thumbnail that is much smaller and when you stretch it across your screen it will loose detail. It's possible to change thumbnail properties, even color space, I just need to remember how :)

The reason you see Adobe Photoshop JPEG file is because all files created on a Mac (or with proper tags) is so the Finder will know how to index it and find it and organize it in Spotlight. Here's some quick info on the Finder (http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/finder.html).

Thanks :) Would save for web reduce the quality at all?

I Think you are just seeing the saved psd file in in preview.

JPEG's are a lossy format, so if you did re-save a jpg then it would loose quality anyway. When you save it for web no thumb is created, so what you are seeing is OS X's self created image.
