My first try at casual portraiture. It sure is hard to keep a child's attention. Our 'session' lasted only about 15 minutes. It was side lit from natural light on an overcast day with white reflector about 3 feet away from face. Shot in RAW, converted and sharpened. Increased saturation slightly in PS. Let me know if you prefer the orignal or the tighter crop and/or any other comments. Thanks!
Exif: 1/125, f/3.2, ISO200, 50mm prime

Both shots seem like they focused more on the couch behind him than on his actual face. Did you try limiting the focus to 1 point only insteaf of all 7 (I think it's 7)? His expression is absolutely wonderful though.

Handsome young man. But his complexion screams for some different clothes or background. There isn't a lot of available contrast between him, the clothes, and the couch. From what I can tell the focus looks OK and the exposure looks good. I definitely prefer the tighter crop.

Tighter crop is best, but I think the focus could be a little better. Great expression.

I agree, the tighter crop is better - it's give more focus to the (cheeky) face.

Now that you mention it... you're right. I selective focus on his eyes and locked it in. I think he leaned towards the camera at the very last second. Thanks Dimitry.

I did realize that I said one thing wrong, it didn't focus on the couch, it was the shirt. That's the sharpest (most focused) part of the picture. Overall though, I like :)

These are taken in our living room. Although my wife and I like the colors, they don't agree with ANY photographs I've taken. I have to use custom white balance to get the colors true. I agree, he needs a shirt that will complement his face / hair.
Does anyone know of any resources for portrait attire. i.e. redheads look good in... pale skin looks good in... dark tan's look good in...
Thanks Titi213 for the comments.

So did I. It didn't last long though. I had to get Gordon from his Thomas the Train set to keep his attention a little longer!

Priceless expression! I like the contrast between his eyes and the rest of the pic. Cute smile too! Cute kid!
