Last night I tried a couple of moon shots. Both were taken with the same settings in shutter priority. The only difference was the set shutter speed. The first was set at 1 second and produced a reflection. The second was set at 1/400 and the reflection is gone. I am curious what causes the reflection? They have not been processed, just reduced in size.

It's an internal reflection in your lens system. They can be pretty annoying and, like jkhphoto said, sometimes cool. You don't see it at 1/400 sec because it's too faint to register at that shutter speed.
What lens was this?

This was the Tamron at 270mm.

Sometimes if you change the f/stop to a higher # it will slow down or stop this internal reflection . I have that problem also :( .

Did you have a filter on the lens? I've seen this from even a good UV filter.

I've got this reflection with and without a filter .

I like that the reflection has some lunar detail in it while the real image has blown out in the same area but shows detail in the shadow.
You've invented a new form of lunar photography. Well done.
Steve.
