Hello POTN! :D
Just bought myself a Canon XSi kit and a couple extra lenses (18-55mm f/3.5-5.6, 50mm f/1.8, 75-300mm f/4-5.6), and a nice tripod (Giottos VT-809 for CAD$40).
I have always had the itch, but never the financial means to afford a dslr. Now that I'm out of university am earning a salary, I figured I should treat myself....of course now I'm figuring out first hand how you can never earn enough for this hobby.
I'm looking to dabble in a bit of everything (portraits, landscape, wildlife, social events).
My Mom had an nice set of slr gear I used to experiment with. I forget whether it was Nikon or Minolta. There was the kit lens, a wide angle, and a pritty good telephoto. Also had a flash, remote trigger, tripod, camera cover and a nice bag to hold it all (excluding tripod).
A few years back my parents decided to buy a new digital P&S (got an Olympus). They pawned the whole set to the shop for $100. And they still paid several hundred for the new digital. I didn't find out about this until the following summer, when I was thinking I might want to get back into photography. Wish I had known, I would have given them the cash for it.
Anyways, love the site and all the great advice. Will be sure to post any questions I have about this fun (and expensive) hobby. :)
