My DS is graduating from Middle school tonight and I wanted to get
some decent shots of him during the ceremony. This will be taking place
in the High School Gym, so lighting wont be great.
I havent done much, if any, shooting in gyms, so if anyone can give some advice
on settings and lens preference, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm thinking my 200
will probably be best, since i'll be sitting in the stands with all the parents.
I just dont want to have to worry so much about my settings all night,
and then come home to blurred images. :(

thanks again!

The 200 2.8 will be def a good idea, maybe bring a miniature tripod or monopod if you need a slow shutter speed. Renting a lens come across your mind? maybe a 135L f/2? I would bring the 50 1.8 JIC for those times when you are close up to her while she is standing with friends or with other family members.

I wont have time to rent a lens, since its tonight and we dont have a rental
place nearby. Thanks for the advice :)

ISO 1600 on a 50D is nothing to fear. In combination with the 200 f/2.8 lens that will get you a long ways. Your 430EX, when at max FL on the zoom head, will provide GN 564 at ISO 1600, which means that your f/2.8 lens has plenty of light out to 200'!
