:) Photographically speaking, holding this thing for the first time is almost a sexual experience. Tonight this bad boy goes on the 1Ds and fun will be had by ME!! Ok, so I will probably annoy everyone around me, but what can I say.

This has the makings of some sort of cult...

What about some graphically gifted member making up a psuedo-regal style .gif of a fraternity card, with a motto ---
"Bokeh Rex Maximus"

Finally....they aren't kidding when they say "thin DOF". Also noticed that AF was real touchy. Manual focus worked better for me. Once you got beyond 5 feet it was ok

Now if my 70-200 f/2.8L will ever show up.........

Ok, the 70-200 got here. Frankly, I'm not sure that I don't like it better over all than the 85. I can see a heck of a lot more use for the 70-200 in the long run. That's not saying of course that I'm giving the 85 away.

Should that not be "Bokeh Rex Canimus"?;)

That "Bokeh Rex Canimus" motto sounds like a good title for a thread of its own or even a guessing competition!

Bokeh. I might mention that I have moved to AF from MF recently because my eyes are needing dioptric aids - i need glasses to read easy now, things too close are OOF. I originally moved from Pentax SLRs to the OM-1n and gear because of the much better sized viewfinder image, and if was good for a while, then 2 years later I was back to square one. I tried fitting +1 and + 2 eyepeices to my OM-1n but it didn't help. Everything I shot was coming out a bit too "bokeh" even after fiddling with the MF for 1 minute or so. Here is a good OM-1n portrait (http://www.pbase.com/pulp_depiction/image/41209695) -little OOF- despite my best efforts to focus.

Strange, but at the shooting range I am still a dead eye using the same scope I have used for a long time... and it has no dioptric adjustments.

Anyway, unavoidable OOF is why I bit the bullet financially and came over to EOS-EF-USM-CMOS gear in the first place. I can tell you the step down from OM-1n viewfinder to the EOS 10D is like going from 70mm Panavision to 8mm cinematic, but at least I what I can make out is in focus!

Wow, although I have shot Canon most of my life, it is interesting to see your note about your vision. About three years ago I was diagnosed with something called “Uveitis”. So far I have lost about 90% of my vision in the left eye and 10% in the right. Photography is actually what made me aware of the problem in the first place. You see I used to shoot through the left eye most of the time, then one evening I tried taking some pictures of the dog and wife on the living room floor. I thought the lens cover was still on. It took until several days later that I finally figured out it was my eye, not the equipment. Talk about denial……

Anyway, either a lot of people like me, or I’m still pretty good with a camera, cause I still get a lot of good comments about my pictures. PM me if you want.

Cheers:)
