I think this is one shot/location which could benefit from focus-stacking -- See: Helicon Focus.

Umm... I guess I will have to go back there with a model then :)
And the focus point was chosen the way it was on purpose, with shallow DOF. I think that focusing on the building is trivial and boring, and was after something a bit more interesting.

Ah, I think the shot is fine and your interpretation is too -- I just think that's the type of photo which looks unusual if it is in focus front-to-back with sharp relief, which is why I mentioned focus stacking.
