Not sure if this is the correct forum to post this question. Feel free to move if needed. My wife and I are moving to the Reno area (Sparks spaish springs area).
What are some of the better photo spots in the area?

Lake Tahoe, for sure. Also, it's not far from Pyramid Lake.

Virginia City is also a fun place to visit for a few pictures.

How funny! Checked out your hikes. Great job on all you hikes. I have done most of thehikes you have listed. I will miss our San Gabriels in a weird way. I currently live in Rosemead, but moving to Sparks next week.

I understand how you feel. The San Gabriels are one thing that keeps me in Southern California. They certainly aren't the most elegant mountains on earth, but they have their own unique charm. :D

I live in Reno and there are a few spots downtown that you can get good shots. Throughout the year there are a few events that offer tons of photo ops. Like previously mentioned, you can always go to Lake Tahoe and Incline Village, Virginia City, Pyramid Lake, several abandoned towns/mines surrounding the area. There's also the Black Rock desert a few hrs north.

You have directions to some of the abandon towns? Is there a guide book I can buy for ghost towns in the area? I'm a backpacker, so I can hike to areas of the beaten path.

It's been years and years since I've checked info about ghost towns. I know that you can go up to Virginia City and there are some old structures and such surrounding the area. Somewhere I think there is the Sutro Tunnel (they build it to drain water out of Virginia City Mines). There's also the Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Park which is 2 or so hours east of Reno. You can find more info about that here (http://parks.nv.gov/bi.htm). I'm on my way to work now, once I get there I'll look up a few more.

Doesn't it depend on what you like to shoot? This (http://www.oceansofkansas.com/ichthyosaur.html) gets my vote, but each to his/her own.
