Just curious what the shutter delay is from when you press the button, is it less than your cheaper point and shoots? I was thinking of picking one up in addition to my slr, but the last point and shoot had a long delay which made me always miss the moment. Thanks!

I got a G10 today and I'm very impressed with it. It feels very responsive and I haven't noticed any shutter delay.

It seems much more advanced than my 30D.

maybe better than most 'point and shoots', ... but still maddening, .. infuriating. http://rdefined.com/phpbb/images/smilies/mad.gif

the majority of the delay is the first stage, metering and focusing.

if the situation allows you to pre-focus, and hold the shutter release at the halfway point to lock it, the delay when you finally release the shutter is down to just under a tenth of a second.

if you are accustomed to an SLR, you will inevitably experience some frustration.

Yes pre focus is a must. You can get most shots with this method but trying to catch something happening quickly can be tricky. Wish it was fewer button presses to switch between servo and non-servo focus.

I bought a G10 today too. Looking to maybe sell all my gear and stick to a point and shoot for a while. Haven't had much time to use my gear, and I have a large sum of money in my gear right now. The G10 looks like it will suit me well; however, the LCD loves getting fingerprints. Going to have to buy an overlay for it. I'm really digging the control of the camera and I like the weight. I will give it further test this evening when I mount my 430ex to it. I'm thinking about picking up the speedlight 270 to mount on the G10 too. Then I may just sell my 430ex if I get rid of my DSLR body.

Hello,
I agree with boki-san, the delay can be madding! Especially happens in low light. Also happens when battery is running low and using fill flash.....Drives me nuts......Love my G10 though........

One work around is to go all manual exposure and then turn on manual focus (MF) just like the old rangefinder days....;) no delay... If you have enough light to set a small f-stop you can set the hyperfocal distance and shoot away.

Set AF frame to Flexizone and select center AF point. Should improve camera response and shutter delay.

I know on my old G9 it's definitely maddening - I'm picking up a G10 as a replacement and counted on the delay - i'm just hoping it's a little faster than its predecessor
