So I am always browsing this forum but never posted in the wedding section... but I have been looking at pics recently and notice diff things... Some people shoot bare flash, pointed strait on. Some people shoot bare flash pointed up, and some shoot with omnibounce pointed strait on... I just wanted to get some inputs on the diff.... What do you use and why... just interesting to see the diff styles and i really have never shot outdoors so dont really know... Thanks....

I almost always bounce my flash.... Generally, I use a Gary Fong LightSphere, but I have my own bounce cards that I've made out of foam paper that work just as well.... but I HARDLY ever use my flash pointed directly at the subject.... I bounce my light off of anything that I can....walls, ceilings, the dude next to me wearing a white shirt.

I use a diffuser on my flash and use that straight on many times - it also does an amazing job while being bounced off the ground depending on the color. I used to shoot with a bounce card (also homemade with foam), but found that when shooting portraits sometimes would loose some light or almost always was shooting the flash into someone's eyes. With the diffuser, that doesn't happen and I cut back on shadows while shooting straight on. I love using it.
