I have a 20D and would like to get a hot shoe cover. Anyone know where to get one? I am also looking at the hot shoe levels that would serve two purposes(cover and level).

Any help would be appreciated!

Is there any real need to cover the hot shoe?
Always wondered this.

I don't know about a need to cover the shoe, but that would make it a snap to take those panoramic shots to stitch.

B&H has two hot shoe levels. Search "hot shoe level". The Bogen one costs $9 more but looks sexier.

None of my cheap tripods have one but my monopod has a level.

Thanks for the replies. I thought just as a precaution I would like to cover the hot shoe. The 2-way levels are nice. My tripod has a level too but just for horizontal. The hot shoe levels can give you the vertical level and make hortizontal corrections for your tripod head level.

What I was thinking was if I could find a cheap little cover like I use to have for old 35mm SLR camera I could probably find a cheap little level to glue to it. I am probably just being cheap.

I'm having trouble finding them.

How could you miss them? Someone linked to one above, and someone else posted instructions. Here's a link (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?ci=1&sb=ps&pn=1&sq=desc&InitialSearch=yes&O=SearchBar&A=search&Q=*&shs=hot+shoe+level&image.x=0&image.y=0) that I got by typing "hot shoe levels" into the B&H search engine.

I don't know about hotshoe covers but I like the idea of a 580EX or even a 420EX. Here's a real cheap level that might work. Just figure out how to attach it to the center post on the tripod. Guess it would work on a monopod too..... You can't beat $4.99.

Seriously, the level on the camera makes some sense since the tripod level does not adjust the camera angle.

On second thought I've shot pictures without one for 40+ years I guess I can do a couple more.

Has anyone HEARD of a hotshoe being "abused" where a cover is needed?

What could you DO to cause any problems?

Carzee

By 'abuse', you mean, like camera-drivers putting their fingers in places they shouldn't??

I put a hotshoe cover on my D-Rebel and it keeps the flash from popping up.

It didn't keep my flash from popping up on my DRebel, but I couldn't get the flash on my 20D to pop up. I thought I had a busted 20D. Not only does it lock the built-in flash from automatically popping up , it also disables it when pressing the little black flash button. For about 5 minutes I tried everything to get the flash to pop up. Took off the flash shoe cover and bingo. So,....the cover is pretty pointless. Why use it if you use the popup flash? and why cover the hot shoe if you consistently use an external flash? I put mine back on my OM1.

Hey, I forked out more than that for my Hama spirit-level. It is very cute. The whole thing is clear perspex. What really makes it worth the extra $$ is that my spirit-level is proudly labelled "DIGITAL". The downside is that it doesn't work on my film SLR

Go to your local used camerea store, I bet they have a box you can rummage thru. Proabably can get a cover for under a buck.

Hotshoe cover, Hmmm another thingie to dngle around or lost in my pocket no thanks. But to level a camera I would go with a bullseye level. Got one from my Directv install kit. If I find time I'll carve a base from a piece of scrap plastic. If I find time.
