View Full Version : RAW CR2 does not convert sometimes

Occasionally I get a RAW file from my 20D which won't convert.

I've tried PS CS with the updated RAW plugin, and also a couple of other third party converters.

PS just shows it as a completely black image, while some of the other products show blue bands or other errors across the pic after conversion.

Has anyone come across this, as I've got a pic that I really don't want to lose, but can't get it to convert.

Someone else posted about this a while back. He emailed me a file, and I confirmed that PS CS couldn't open it, and from memory RawShooter couldn't either. The JPG preview embedded in the CR2 was fine, strangely. Unfortunately your only option might be to extract the preview thumbnail from the CR2, I think DPP does that though i've never tried myself.

I took over 10000 shots with my 10D and never had this issue. Is this likely to be something related to the CF card or the camera itself?

I found that the file had corrupted when I copied from my X-Drive to my pc. The copy on my X-Drive was still good.

Thanks for the help Tim

Interesting, thanks for reporting back. That's a good reason to keep photos on CF where possible.

In my case, it was a good thing that I had them in two places :D
