Hi guys. Currently, I'm using a China-Made ballhead with a QR plate very similar to Manfrotto's RC2 QR plates. I have an optech pro-loop strap mounted to the D-ring of the QR plate, and I like the set up.

However, lets say that I am going to start using / getting Arca Swiss mount ballheads and tilt heads. How would I be able to have such a strap setup? While the RRS L-plates seem like a good way to allow the china-made-qr+strap setup - it's an expensive way.

Any advice would be good :)

Cheers,
Zexun

My RRS Arca type plates (non-L plate) have a 1/4-20 hole in the bottom of them. I assumed you could connect a loop/d-ring to that.

I have been using an "R-strap like" setup as well, but with the Camdapter standard plate (http://camdapter.com/product_standard_std.html) and the free Smugmug strap looped around the 2 lugs of the plate. Camdapter makes Arca style plates as well, so that might be an option?

Hey thanks for your response. I've since purchased the R strap RS4 and am using it on my also-recently-purchased Manfrotto RC2 QR D rings and the actual Fastener from Blackrapid. Not advisable to mount to the Manfrotto D ring, but I'll take my chances with not-so-heavy gear (400D gripped + 17-40L + flash at best).

I'm curious! What's the advantage of this? It seems it needs to be removed when placing on the tripod or monopod unless I've missed something.

What does "this" refer to?

Yes, the R strap (i've since gotten an RS4 myself instead of this DIY solution) still has to be removed to use the pod.

I've seen the Op/Tech Utility Loop used where it is connected to the bottom handstrap pin and then the R-strap is hooked to the available plastic hole in the utility loop.

You can use an Op/tech loop connector or similar to connect it to the tripod strap hook; or (at your own risk) use a factory fold-down d-ring on the quick release plate. Both solutions mean you won't have to unscrew everything to change over.

My setup is similar to Ty's, but I discarded the rubber washer that comes with the FastenR-2 and LocTited the FastenR to the clamp.

My Markins PG-34N body plate arrived for my 5D yesterday. (http://www.markinsamerica.com/MA5/PG-34N.php) It also has hand strap holes on each side, perfect for looping my Smugmug strap to. The Markins seems a lot sleeker, more well-made, and lighter than the Camdapter standard plate I was using...

I wear this setup R-Strap style and handles my 5D + 24-70L well. I should be able to mount the plate directly to the tripod head without having to remove the strap as well. Simple and easy :)
