 Let's write here what we think will be useful, so that Pekka will also know what everybody needs

1) I say that it is VERYimportant to be able adding individual comments for images
(competors like JAlbum, are doing this very well already)
2) More translations are needed
3) ...

What else do you think ?
Be active here people!

I thought the owner could put comments in the "FREE TEXTUAL INFO" area on the photo edit page and that viewers could comment on a photo in the "Comments and ratings" area under each photo

What about making it a bit more "skinable"? This is prabably on the list already, but i like to mention it again.
So what i mean is that you realy easy could change the view of the site/gallery by css or something familiar

I saw mention of some gallery somewhere (can't remember now, sorry!) that was using RSS to send thumbnails of new photos to sunscribers. Might be useful to some people

It would be nice to see some minimal EXIF information (camera, lens, focal length) of the photo/image in the photo editor window. Sometimes EE guesses the lens wrong and it would be nice if we could just glance over at the EXIF information and then select the proper lens from the lens select box.

It would be nice to be able to display a subset of the EXIF information with a picture, but also be able to click to display all the data. Currently it is all (or whatever you have configured to display) or nothing.

Pekka posted a fix to do this in another thread a month or so back

Uhm... From what I read, that doesn't cause EE to show the EXIF information. All that does is toggle the view details option under photos. It is already an EE1.5 option.

Unless I missed something in Pekka's post..

Thanks for pointing out Pekka's fix. It makes it possible to hide the photo detail by default, but make it available by clicking a link.

This isn't exactly what I was looking for though. I would like to be able to show "some" of the photo detail (i.e. Shutter Speed, Aperature, ISO, Camera) on all photos, but have the option (for people who are interested) of showing more (or all) the photo data. Maybe three possible options, Hide Photo Detail, Show Some Photo Detail, and Show All Photo Detail, with the default behavior being selectable per exhibition (or photo).

With next EE You can edit each uploaded photo while uploading if you want. The upload system works like this:
- You select (like in current version) exhibition, photos and paths (exhibition is selected first, which selects default paths).
- EE uploads the first photo (you see some info and ftp messages)
- When upload is done it displays thumbnail, microthumbnail, links to large sizes and photo editor. You can change all photo details etc.
- now you can click either..

"SAVE DATA AND CONTINUE TO NEXT PHOTO IN BATCH"
(which means the photo editor is displayed after the next photo)

"SAVE DATA AND CONTINUE BATCH NONSTOP"
(which means the photo editor is not displayed and the upload continues automatically)

..or just stop the upload and continue it later, as EE stores the whole upload queue (filenames/paths/exhibition) in database and gives you a chance to continue it later when you return to upload page.

What this system also gets you is workaround for 30s PHP default timeout and that photo is inserted to database after each successful upload and not all at once after all ftp activity as it is in 1.5 RC4.

All this is already coded and it works really nicely if I may say so. :)

Ok now you're teasing us! Any release dates yet?

Thanks

I would really, really like to see clickable keywords in the next version, just like Categories are clickable now. With the demise of the IPTC Category field it's a good idea anyway. And it would really help me out since I have stopped using the Category field entirely. I found another post about this over a year ago but I don't think anyone ever followed it up.

I noticed that I can add categories to the database; but not remove them.

It's not such a big deal; you can just choose to not use a gategory. But in my opinion it would be nicer/clearen if you are able to remove them

I would like to be able to search for a certain keyword (all exhibitions) and copy/move the found photos to an existing exhibition.

Jerenimo: You can at least change of categories' (even the old ones)names into what you like, meaning that you can make the list into anything you like. I wasn't able to delete categories either though...

My idea is..... can we have it tomorrow? :D

Only joking (well no, I am not really, but I really am looking forward to the release)

Pekka,

Not too sure if this has been requested before....

How about the ability to change the frame/shadow via the admin back-end and/or the user end instead of just through CSS?

It would be cool to allow viewers of an image to be able to change the "framing" of an image. Especially for those using EE to sell images.

I've been contemplaring a hack for this, but thought I'd post this first.

a) Categories is EE are by no means restricted to IPTC. You can define whatever categories you like and use them as you like.

b) keyword list is there is next EE. It is available as a separate form and also as addition to current search tool: choose search "Keywords" and the list of keywords is given instead of textbox.

I think both keywords and categories have their place, you can categorize e.g. flowers by family and use keywords to seek the specific latin names or colors inside a family. Either alone is not powerful enough.

Nice to see that this topic I opened is active and people are writting wonderfull stuff here. Pekka just wanted to clarify - are you planning to enable putting comments for each image in the final release of current RC?

You can add comments to each image in current EE. Do you mean reminder comments in photo editor or adding text when uploading or...?

I wonder if the new rating (five stars) and colour and groups can be used from PS CS2.

That would be cool...

Do you have a demo of the look somewhere?

I mean, having comments(description) for each individual image. So that when people view pictures they know what is that picture about. Currently there is nothing like that; yes, there are comments for pictures, but when for ex. 20 pictures are displayed on the page there are no description for each of them (at the top or at the bottom of each picture.)... hope i could explain it:D

For thumbnail views you can choose the 4 or 7 thumbnail otions. that gives you each picture title on the thumbnail display. Or for individual pictures when viewed you can add text in using the Photo editor. Like this:
http://www.gillyworld.com/ee15/photo.php?photo=3650&exhibition=83&u=99|42|...

You will see the text underneath

For me the current way of adding pics to multiple groups is very uncomfortable. I have hundreds of pics in different groups which I have to assign to a lot of different groups. Right now it's only possible to do it groupwise and I need to know the file / object name of each pic. That takes too much time. What I would prefer is a way that you can assign certain keywords to a group and all pics matching that keywords would be displayed in that group. Are there any plans of adding that function to EE?

Is it possible now to globally alter text, for instance, my $10 photos I'd like to change to $11.49 - but I'd prefer to not have to change the text for each one?

thanks
