View Full Version : How many people do you know that are content with the kit they bought?

Do you know anyone who hasn't upgraded from their original entry level kit and hasn't wanted to? I was thinking about it before. My cousin has a 30D, 17-85 and 70-300 and AFAIK, they haven't bought or sold anything since they first bought it. One of my friends has the 400D and 18-55 non-IS and nothing else. I know they're interested in buying a flash but they've held on to the original kit for a while.
Obviously everyone is different and most of us here on POTN are driven by the site to buy more gear :p but is there anyone else like this? I can imagine there'll be a few more people that will buy their entry level body with the IS lenses and sit with it, seeing as the IS lenses are better optically than the old 18-55/75-300 kit.

Ignorance is bliss. People are generally content if they don't know about other things to upgrade to, or haven't tried them, seen the results they produce, etc.

Some people can really work wonders with just their kit lenses. Heaven knows what kind of miracles they'll produce if these people get their hands on premium equipment.

When I first got my canon Film slr, I just kept with the regular 28-80 Lens. Then I added a 70-300 lens after that. Then I slowly stopped doing photography, and now I am back with Dslr and using a 17-50.

I guess when people buy a dSLR for just family/vacation type stuff, they don't really see the need for "better" gear.

Some people probably think it is the top of the line stuff, compared to most P and S cameras. plus, some people cant afford more money for a lens.

The 350D (XT) in the hands of an experience photographer is a powerful tool.. A 1D MkIII in the hands of a beginner is just that,,a beginner's camera..

I'm happy with my stuff for the first time in my life and feel no need to upgrade. That said, a new Alien Bees ringflash would sure be awesome!

I am happy with my kit the way it is and most likely will never add to it. If I could afford to make any changes I would replace my 28-135 kit lens with a 24-105L but I am happy with what I have.

I bought a 350d three years ago with the kit lens, last year added a 55-250mm.
However most of the time I use my trusty Canon T90 or F1 with all those superb FD lenses that I can pick up from E-Bay for a song, more challenging, yes, but much more satisfying.
If I won the lottery tomorrow,I would not change any of my kit, I just feel comfortable with it.
