I'm thinking about getting a Glide Cam for a 5D II and wanted to get some feedback from someone who is using this setup. Any help would be appreciated and if you are using a different stabilizer please let me know what you think about it.

Thanks

Haven't used a 5D on a Glidecam, but by the weight requirements (depending on how many accessories you are using) the Glidecam 2000 would do the trick. It's a fair bit lighter than the 4000 which may or may not be an issue, depending on rather or not you want to go with the arm/vest combo or use it handheld.

Just remember to put a wide lens on there because the longer lenses with the shallow DOF is going to be a pain.

I use a Merlin steadicam. It takes a while to get balanced and it can be a little frustrating if you lack patience like I do, but once you have it, it's great.

my 5D works fairly well on my Glide Cam 4000. The only thing that it needs is a little more weight on the top with the camera. This shouldn't be a problem if you:

Put a heavy lens on it like the 24-70
put a battery grip on it
put the beachtek mixer on it
put any kind of rails/ follow focus on it.

The bare 5d with a nifty fifty is a little too light (mechanically speaking for the glide cam to work properly, there needs to be a little extra weight; only a pound or two)

I got Glidecam 2000. Since I only plan to use it handheld, 2000 made most sense (I won't get over 6lbs of weight anyway). 5DII with 24-105 balances on 2000 quite well.

Forearm brace helps too.

There is a good tutorial on balancing the 5D on a Merlin here: http://vimeo.com/4034560
