Hi,

Still don't have my 20D.....but, would like to know when I buy my 17-40mm lens (same time as the camera...soon) which UV filter to get to protect my baby.....

I know B+W filters are meant to be good....but anyone know about Cokin filters. Is there a big difference except for the price? Cokin are about a third of the price.

Cheers

I use Hoya Pro-1 UV(0) filters to protect my lenses. They are ultra thin and still have the front thread. The ultra thin B+W filters do not have a front thread, but come with a push on cap which is a pain in the neck.

I use MRC B+W circular polarisers (not slimline) when travelling light, leaving my Lee filter kit at home.

Can't comment on Cokin filters, but from older threads on this forum, it appears the choice is between Hoya and B+W.

Cokin system is not good for a protection. The system uses a huge plastic adapter that is attached in front of your lens and holds square filters. It's a pain to transport the attached adapter.
The most important - the Cokin system will not stop the dust entering your lens, while every threaded filter will do this.
