With an HDR that extreme, you'd expect a little bit more colour... but it's just flat.

sort of flat to me. color wise... Very flat! Its weird, because on my screen it look better than how it is posted here! Sorry, but in color managed FF3, it could use a LOT more contrast. Take a look at: Firefox (3.0.4) + add ons (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=602787) and also Color problems? [work in progress?] (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=296149)
Still...

What I've found about HDR is that some people like your style and some people don't. Don't worry about it, and do what you like. I don't mind the cars but the backgrounds are just too distracting.

Like the compositions and would probably love the shots in normal color, but the HDR kills it for me. :(

I think that you might need to calibrate your monitor if the colors looked good on it before posting. What online photo management are you using? I suggest Flickr if you aren't already using that.
The shots themselves are pretty decent, but the color, vibrance, and saturation are really off. HDR shots tend to make colors way more vibrant, and these seem very warm and lack color depth.
As stated before, you're attitude is spot on and taking in the critiques. Run with what everyone has said thus far and it should help you grow with your editing.
For these shots, I say adjust your colors, vibrance, and saturation. Maybe look at your contrast as well. Good luck, and nice cars!
