D700? It would be more impressive with a 1D3 or D3 as those cameras have a higher FPS if they want to do something ala The Matrix.

The D700 appears to shoot at 1fps just fine, not sure why a D3 would be needed?

Fun video, thanks for sharing it!

From the looks of what they did, I think one shot from each was sufficient for the 360 degrees worth of images. ;)

I think, for photographers at least, 75% or more of the entertainment value in that is the gross over-expenditure in terms of camera power required versus camera power necessary.

I wonder what lens they chose?

The original matrix movie was shot before 1999, and was done using Canon A2's, which shoot at 5fps. And they had to scan all the film afterwards to make the bullet time sequences. So the 10fps of the 1D3 is not necessary at all if the syncing is done properly.

that would have been awesome if they did the initial 360 shot, and then followed it with an intervolometer of say .05 second delay between each camera so that the full matrix affect is achieved.

otherwise it's just something churned out of google maps (360 degree street view mode)

cool video effect. i love how they can spend that much money on all of those cameras plus lenses plus the rig and time it took to do that. wish i worked for mtv.

It's been done with Canon cameras as well, for motion picture special effects. Breeze Systems has software for this multi-camera task. (http://breezesys.com/MultiCamera/index.htm)
