I'm looking to get a new camera (hopfully soon) to upgrade my venerable S230. I'm looking at the SD500. The two things I don't like about it though are the fact that I already have a 512mb compact flash card and an extra battery for the s230, so I'd have rebuy them both. Oh yeah, and its like $500.
Theres the S500, which takes compact flash and reuses the same battery, but it does not have the Digic II processor, and I'm pretty hot on the new SD500 styling.
Does anyone have any comments on either the S500 or the SD500? Things I should look out for, things I should consider, maybe I'm looking at the wrong cameras? Thanks!

That topic has been covered quite extensively on this website:

That SD500 is a BIG improvement over the S500 though. I'd consider sucking it up and going with the SD model. A good 1GB SD card is only $100 or so.

More pixels do not make a better camera. Image-wise, the SD500 is not an improvement over the S500, IMO. Take a look at all the sample pics posted by actual users. The SD500 is smaller and is faster at taking pictures, but it lacks in the image quality dept. The purple-fringing seems to be worse than the S500 ever was. A result of poor matchup between lens and sensor...?
Now, the SD500 is a Canon, and as far as image quality goes for small digicams, the SD500 is definately good, just not as good as say the S500 (another Canon!). I guess what I'm trying to say is that I shouldn't slam the SD500, but I think its ridiculously overpriced, especially since you have several other Canon's in the small P&S category to choose from that are much cheaper.
BTW, rumor has it that the SD500 has some quality issues, namely the flimsy LCD like all the other Canon SD Elph's.
Plus, if you're like me, you may already have lots of $$ tied up in CF cards. The SD500 uses, you guessed it, SD cards...

Thanks for all the input. I guess one of the other issues was that I really like the stainless steel body of my s230. I take it biking with me and am not afraid to put it in a pocket where its going to get bumped. It may weigh a little more, but its also damn fine looking. I still get comments on how small and cool looking it is.
I think that maybe I should wait and see what else comes, and wait for prices to come down a bit.
