I was also a die hard Nikon guy. I switched to Digital last year with a D70. I thought that this was a good starter camera, and it was except that my hands are quite large. I end up with three fingers under the body. I have been waiting for Nikon to release a new body with a battery grip. What do they anounce? The D70s and the D50.
I summarily went out and bought a 20D with four lenses. I have to say this is a nice camera and the glass is very nice. I like the 70-200mm IS L lense a lot. I have a bunch of Nikon glass which I am not sure if I'll sell. ( I never bought any camera equipment that I wanted to sell)
I am having one small problem with the 20D. When I install AA batteries in the Battery grip they only seem to last for one shot then the camera shuts off. I check the batteries with a tester and they show okay. But the camera works okay with the 2 regular batteries? Anyone have any idea what is going on?

Hey there, welcome to the forum ;)
I'm not very far away from you (schiller park)
Good choice on the 20D. I love mine, the only thing I ever have, am, and will be complaining about is that grip, very poorly designed... Anyway, I've never tried using it with AA batteries, but I have heard quite a few people mentioning the same issues that you have (camera shutting down after a few shots), but I say just use BP-511a batteries and you'll be better off anyway.
I'm pretty sure you could easily sell all your Nikon glass on one of the forums (fredmiranda.com or some other Nikon forum), they hold value pretty well. Or e-bay. I had some Nikon gear myself, which I sold on e-bay :)
Anyway, enjoy your 20D, and enjoy the forum
Maybe I'll see you around some day

Sold my Nikon F80 and Nikon glass on eBay when I switched to Canon. Surprised to find that I got more for them then I paid a few years earlier. Check out eBay, and there are lots of numpties paying more for a s/h item without warrenty than they can buy new from a decent mail/web order company.

It's sacriliges, but you could consider hunting down an EOS to Nikon F converter, allowing you to use your Nikon glass on your Canon, obviously with loss of some functionality.

The AA gizmo is designed for use in emergencies (nowhere to charge batteries - must get a shot), the BP511 batteries will last days of normal shooting. If you use top quality AA's you might fare a little better, but really, when I opened my grip I put the aa carrier back in the box with the paperwork, there it'll stay forever.

However I have bought a charger to charge the Canon batteries from a car cigar lighter (for emergencies).
