i am an amature/hobby photographer using a cannon 450D. having never had the time to study a photography course im trying to figure things out for myself however i am having trouble increasing the shutter speed so that a sequence captures more frames. i shoot wakeboarding, skateboarding & surfing mostly and at the moment i cant seem to set my camera to shoot a faster sequence so that the shots are not so spaced apart... "if that makes sense??"

if anyone can help me with this i would really appreciate it!

Sadly, your Canon 450D is limited to 3.5 fps. So at any shutter speed faster than 1/2th of a second, you can't shoot more photos per second. Whether it's 1/30th or 1/4000th, you're limited by the processor to 3.5 frames per second.

Upgrading your camera to an xxD or higher (with the exception of the 5D) would increase your fps, but other than that you're out of luck.

Probably not the advice you wanted, but if I'm reading your post correctly that's your answer.

I remember in the old days when 3.5 was FAST. Really, you should be able to get some great shots with 3fps.

How much are you willing to spend?

One choice is to buy a 1D Mark III camera body, (http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-EOS-1D-Mark-III-Digital-SLR-Camera-Review.aspx) that fires ten frames per second at 10.1 megapixels, for around US $4,000. Another choice is to buy a Casio EX-F1, (http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/casio-exf1.shtml) that fires 60 six-megapixel frames per second, for around US $1,000.

If you are relying on your frame rate to capture better shots (called Spray and Pray), IMO you need to work on your timing more. While I always shoot in high speed burst mode, even when I do fire a sequence, my keepers are almost always the first shots in the burst.

The only way to increase your frame rate is to buy a new camera (or shoot video). This is one of the reasons why a 1-series camera costs a lot more than the 450D - making a piece of hardware that will reliably fire off 8-10 frames each second for 200,000 shutter actuations isn't cheap.

cheers guys, that pretty much confirms what i already suspected.

and for the record im not relying on shutter speed in hope of capturing a decent shot. i was more so wanting to get a faster display/record of the tricks. im a wakeskater & use some of my shots for verious mags.. this is just something that has been bothering me for a while & i already had a feeling i was maxing out the shutter speed. but i came accross this forum & thought ide ask in hope somone knew something i didnt already.

cheers for hittin me back on this thread though. much appreciated!
happy days.
