5. This little thing just wouldnt let go. After the finish line he was growling and biting the fabric. They actually needed to cut piece of it. When the owner carried him away he was still growling and had that little piece of fabric in his mouth

Nice shots, Vesa! I know what you mean about that harsh light, it's very hard to know what to do when you have such light.

At least in the US, we would call this Oval Track Racing, not Lure Coursing.

wow great shots :D. The info about shot #5 sounds like my dog after a race.
This sort of running is also known as racing in the uk too.

Thanks for the comments.

Dave, cheers for the info. I just thought its called lure coursing if they are just chasing something, on oval track or outside of it. Have to remember that in the future :D

We keep the name of that sort of racing pretty simple here in New Zealand. Most commonly it's known as "the dogs".

Great shots... love the facial expressions of the dogs.

Nice shots, I've never even heard of this sport. Is it like general dog racing but just not for greyhounds?

Bill, there's amateur racing and coursing events all over the US. Most other countries as well. You'd find straight racing, oval racing, and lure coursing on a windy path, just like you would with car racing :) These events are typically restricted to the sighthound breeds (greyhounds, borzoi, whippets, etc).

If anybody has any interest on dogs, IŽd suggest to visit local track someday.
Its very interesting and challenging sport to shoot. Some of the dogs, like whippets are so small and run really fast it makes shooting very interesting.
I was next to the track and used 400mm but found it way too small

Great series of shots!
My whippet is too old to course, plus she never got into chasing a lure, just the real thing ;-)

Simply love the saluki in full tuck. Closed eyes, too funny LOL - maybe just blinking - hehehe

So she is similar to my afghan hound. He just goes crazy when he sees a hare
