A year ago I thought that I would use a framework to assess a photograph -- see http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=2243

Today I will give a quick critique of your path through the cedars since there is snow here in Canada and my woods are also very photogenic. Here we go:

BASIC TECHNIQUE:
Is focus appropriate for the subject? -- YES
Is depth of field appropriate? -- YES
Is it exposed in a way that works for the image? YES

SPECIAL TECHNIQUES NO

COMPOSITION:
Is the image balanced or unbalanced? BALANCED around the image"s vertical center
Is the balance level appropriate? YES -- not much choice here a simle binary split.
If there is a main center of interest, is it well placed in the frame? Yes and no -- it is the path at the bottom of the image
Are there distracting elements in the picture that could be eliminated? Yes -- the top sky in particular
Are there too many unrelated elements? NO
Too few elements? YES -- there is jsu not much to look at here
Does the composition make effective use of leading lines? A bit, but the line is briken in the forground and there is no much of a receding line towards the background
Is depth used (or not used) to good advantage? SO-so
Does the composition make use of repeating forms? No really, the tree trunks do play at part but are not too noticable.
Does the framing work? Yes

LIGHTING: Does it show off the subject well? No -- snow can glisted in the light. Here the light is very flat
Is the contrast level appropriate? Yes
Is there lighting that would work better for the subject? Yes -- potentially some dusk or dawn sun that sets out some colre -- but there is not much room for it to enter or leave a mark on the image

SUBJECT INTEREST:
Does the subject have interesting connotations or associations? YES a walk in the woods or an XC ski in the forest, but the straight down the pipe shot does little to allow the mind to wander and query.
Color interest? Only two colors with little play of coloe/
Interesting textures? Yes
Interesting juxtapositions? NOne that I can see other than trees vs snow

ORIGINALITY: Does the image show an original subject or an original approach to a standard subject? -- Not really
