View Full Version : Problem with Dig Rebel XT and EF-500 Super

Hey, all --

I have an EF-500 Super flash (NOT the DG Super -- the plain ol' EF-500 Super). I used it with my Canon EOS 7 and got great results.

But now I have a Digital Rebel XT. And now every photo I take with my EF-500 is blown out -- completely overpowered by the flash.

I've tried various settings, and checked everything over and over. No luck. The only way to get a good photo is to set the flash exposure compensation to -2.

Does anyone have any idea why I might be having this problem? Is there something different about the Digital Rebel line compared to the 35-mm EOS? Can I not use the EF-500 with the Digital Rebel?

Thanks for any, um, light you can shed on this!

Andrew

Your flash is most likely not fully compatible with Canon digital cameras.

The DG version was designed to rectify that.

what mode are you shooting in? ISO aperature ss etc?

Arg -- I was afraid of that. And here I thought I could use all my Canon-based equipment with the Drebel. Thanks.

(The problem happens at a variety of shutter speeds and apertures, so I assume Scott is right. Grr.)
