Im looking into getting a different TFT monitor, I currently have a AOC monitor and am not happy with its colour / contrast / brightness, the results look compleatly different to my Dell / Sony Trinitron 19" CRT monitor.

What are important factors to consider when purchasing a TFT. Figures I routinely see on TFT monitors are

Contrast Ratio: The higher this number is the better ?
Lluminesance : How bright this thing can be, dosent need to be excessive I guess
Response Rate : not important unless you are doing moving images ?

I have been looking at NEC, Samsung, Eizo, Sony

(the eizo's are a little out of my budget since Im investing in a new lense atm)

Also are there any benchmarks or colour refeance guides for calibrating monitors or do only the highend monitors support this ?

I almost bought one of these but instead went for the Dell 2405fpw. Size, as they say, is everything!
