So the Future Wife and I are planning our wedding. Its my job to find someone to shoot our wedding/engagement. I know what I like. However, our budget is only about $5000-6000, I think that is going to be the biggest hurdle for us.

Can anyone recommend any Edmonton Photogs? Any any potential pitfalls to avoid?

I'm having a tough time with this as there are so many studios, that shoot in similar style, its a big investment, and I'm pretty critical because I also take pictures and know what I do and don't like in my own people photos.

I really hate starting these "Help me" threads, but I'm at the point where I do need some input. Hope you can help

Also here's a self portrait for the cover of our engagement party book that the future wife wants me to put togetherr, threads are more fun with photos!

+1 for Lloyd!!! I do not know the Edmonton market but check out his site and I do not think you will disappointed by any means, that is unless he is already booked.

Yes, he does very nice work. However...might be a bit out of our budget. Inviting 250+ people really cuts into the photography budget unfortunately.

Do you mean $5,000-6,000 for the entire wedding or for the photography? At first I read it as $5,000-6,000 to spend on photography.

5k on pics alone? Nice

I may have to get in touch with Lloyd.

I did see his $4200 package, but Future Wife really likes the wedding albums that most photgs around here offer, and that package including an album is the $6900 package.

I might have to see if we can stretch the budget a bit, or live without an album.

Haha, that kind of seems to be the going rate for a complete package around here, that is up to the kind of quality we are looking for...I guess it doesn't help that I'm picky.

I can get a photog for less, I just can't find one so far that will give us what we want in terms of pics, album and digital negatives for less than 6k.

I'm sure you have great photogs, I guess our market is just high right now, I don't know.

Sorry if i sound like a scrooge but i just cant understand such high prices.it must be a supply and demand thing.Good luck with your hunt for that photog but more than that good luck and best wishes on what will be a wonderful wedding day for the both of you.

250 guests at perhaps $100 per head... $25,000. $6000 or a bit more for one of the best photographers in the area's a bargain. Just uninvite 50 of the people you don't much like. Photos last forever, dinner lasts an hour.

True story, we've already trimmed it down to 275 invites. We've got a few more meetings with photogs tonight and tomorrow, so we'll see how that goes.

Do you want an album of images you don't like as much - just for the sake of having an album? I doubt it ;)

You're already spending a good amount - do what it takes to spend more and book Lloyd. He's a great guy and photographer ;)

Many pro photographers do not allow their images to be sent to a professional album company outside their permission - those that don't have that in their contract. Not sure about Lloyd...

Copyright would cover commercial use, ie another company making albums.

I didn't either till I started learning more about how the break down works, typically you don't bring home 5 grand of course...more like half of that, and then there's tax that rips a lot of it off of you.

Takes about a week or two to process a bunch of wedding images, so 2500$ in a xouple weeks ..or more like less...well that's not a hell of a lot of cash to live on.

Sorta like hiring a mechanic to fix your blown tire at the side of the road..costs 200$ for them to get there, blow it up and patch it or whatever (materials, expenses, call out rate, hourly wage, tax)
for photogs it goes (materials, expenses, session fee, hourly wage, tax)
