I already own a Canon 20D and a tiny powershot SD600. Both are a few years old.

- The 20D takes amazing pictures! (mind you, the lens is 17-85mm)
- The SD600 pictures kinda suck

- The 20D is heavy as hell (even without the lens, it's bulky)
- The SD600 is super small and light so it's easy to take everywhere

Basically, I'm looking for a camera that's somewhere in between. With a good quality, yet not too heavy/bulky so I can take it with me everywhere.

Now I'm hesitating between the SX1 and the G10. Which would you recommend? I don't think any of these 2 take videos, right? What are the pros and cons of these 2 models?

Actually they both do video. The SX1 does HD video or standard 640x480; the G10 only does 640x480. The SX1 also has 4x more zoom than the G10 (equivalent to 18-360 on your 20D vs. 18-90 equiv. for the G10), but an electronic viewfinder rather than the G10's optical one. It does have a flip-out LCD which the G10 doesn't. I have the SX1 and A630; we also have the 20D and SD600, so I know what you have. The G10 is a bit less bulky, IMO, than the SX1 (more brick-shaped than full cube) so if convenience in carrying is a major factor, the G10 would be preferable.

^^Thanks!!

yeah I noticed the XS1 has HD video capacity. Is it really that much bulkier? I saw a few video reviews, but both cameras roughly seem to be about the same size. I *think* it would fit into my purse ... hmmm.

Purse, yes, pocket - the G10. One's long and narrower; the other is blockier. I fit the SX1 in a Domke F5XA with a GPS and spare batteries or flash.

The G10 is something you could carry in a larger pocket, but the SX1 (which I have), won't fit in any pocket I've seen !!
I find the SX1 to be a very versatile camera, capable of high quality video, very good photo images (now has RAW facility courtesy of a CHDK firmware upgrade from Canon), and has an amazing optical zoom (28 - 560 - equivalent to a 35m DSLR) which has great image stabilization.
I haven't used the G10, but from all accounts it is a great camera and gives top quality photographs.
Good luck with your choice.
