I am a beginner in photography and i love cars and want to start taking pics of cars, i bought the Canon XS this weekend and i wanted to practice on my husband and brothers car and this is what i got. I need as much advise as possible, i know it's a hard subject to take a picture of but i want to be good at it. I waited till about 6:30pm to shoot these photos, do they look okay for a beginner, do i have bad angles????????
I'd appriciate the good and bad feedback! ;)

You'll hear this from others... shoot in better light. Wait until the evening (or go first hing in the morning) and get some softer light without the hard shadows. For mid-day shots, these aren't bad. Except, of course, the matching poles that each car has growing out of the roof in #1.

You could do better creatively. As said previous, distracting poles, poor choice of light. Cars are also too far apart in the second shot.
Get creative next time. Wait until the light gets much lower, don't shoot at such a high F stop (try f8).

PGAero gave some good advice. I would also try a different location. The place you chose seems too cluttered/blah to me.

I too think better light would help you make these cars look as good in a picture as they do in real life. Also, think about... front tire turned out so that you see more of the tire instead of the wheel? No? Yes? Maybe? I don't know... Just a thought. Thanks for sharing and hope to see more of the 'stangs soon! :)

If your ballin on a budget try shooting at an empty gas station at night. the lighting usually gives you something to play with, also don't forget your shooting digital so go crazy, take the pics the way you like then twist your camera a bit and snap a couple, then get closer and snap some jump on top of something, get crazy. I will easily shoot 200 pics and only find one or two keepers but this ratio is progressively rising as I get better.

Gas station idea is great!
Especially one without much happening in the background.
1-2/200!?! That's awesome!
I take like 1000 and get 1-2 keepers.... man I need to up my game!

Putting the cars att opposing angles is always nice as well. The night time gas station is a great idea. Another idea that turns out really neat is if yuo take your shiny polished cars out the an industrial area near a run down building (keep safety in mind here), the contrast in appearance is very eye catching. Particularly with cars like the Cobra, get as low as you possibly can to the ground, when I shoot my C5 Vette from the front corner angle I will literally lay on the ground and shoot from the lowest vantage point I can get looking slightly up at the front end of the car. For whatever reason that angle really sets the lines of the car off and in the case of the Mustangs with their shrap lines would really look mean in my opinion.
BTW, is that the 03-04 supercharged version of the Cobra??? Wicked car that responds ridiculously well to modifications.
