Hey guys I wanted to get your opinion on a DIY canvas backdrop I made.

How I did it (for those interested)

Color-wash
Bought a 4’ x 5’ canvas drop-cloth from the hardware store
Washed it to shrink it and then ironed it remove wrinkles
Spread it out flat on a 4x8 sheetrock panel
Brushed on a layer of Gray Acrylic Latex paint. I thinned the paint out with 40% water for added flexibility.
Using White Acrylic Latex, I mixed up a batch of ‘Fauz Glaze’.
I applied the glaze with a 3” brush in random X patterns all over the canvas
Using a darker Gray (I just added black to the original gray), I mixed up a batch of ‘Fauz Glaze’
Using the same X pattern, I applied it over the canvas.
I then used a damp cotton towel (old t-shirt) and wiped the glaze using the same X pattern being sure to turn the damp cloth. Cloud Cover

I used the same techniques as above, however this time I wiped the damp cloth in a circular motion.

I am sorry for the lack of pictures. I wasn’t thinking at the time that I was doing it. If I make another one, I’ll be sure to take pictures of each step.

The final product measures 44” x 54”. I was thinking that this would be a wonderful chest high to head-shot backdrop size. It’s small and easy to handle. However, I started thinking that if I were to move the subject away from the backdrop for separation, then the backdrop would be to small.

I currently cannot test this yet.

My questions to you fine folks are:

Do you guys think that the backdrop is too small for its intended purpose?
If I make more, should I just make them 5’ x 6’ ( I have 2 canvas backdrops that I love that are this size.)
What is your ideal portrait backdrop size?I thought about making some more with the leftover material and selling them for about 20-25 bucks. Does that seem like a wasted idea? I'm not trying get rich, I just have extra material.

Thanks for looking.
