The only one I personally do not like is the last, I find that the movement in somehow in contrast with the concept I have of silhouette. The other 3 are excellent, IMHO.

Pretty simple, just expose for the background (the sky). The subjects will be pretty dark, then just modify the curves in PS by dragging the bottom left part of the curve to the right clipping the darker colors (which the sky won't be effected) making those dark areas completely black. Sometimes I'll do the same for the highlight (top right) and drag it to the left making the background even brighter. That's basicly what I did to these.

It's going to be pretty thick, lol. I've almost turned 20k shots on this 10D....and I don't shoot professionally, just my immediate family.
mgbeach, that's is cool. I didn't like the horizon as much on that one, that was a good idea.

To me, the more I look at them, I like that 3rd one because you can make out that she is glancing towards the horizon as if she acknowledging the setting of the sun...contiplating her next action.
Anyway, it's really hard to get a three year old to pose a certain way...I only capture anything by luck and allot of patients. :-)

Excellent series! I really liked the last one on the swing... Kind of gives that 'last breath of fun' thought as the sun sets.

I really like the last shot. It's a wonderful capture.
I like the first and third as well. Nice contrast. The second one just seems to have too much empty space for my liking.
Overall, great job.

I REALLY like the last one!! Grteat job w/exposure on a whole.
My only input would be that with silhouette images to be effective, you need to either crop mid torso up or get the sky in the bkg from at least the knees up.. the brain wants to see the rest of the body when blends into the bkg. kinda makes it a lil confusing

GOSH, I love #2 -- it just struck me: I see a contrast between an apparently little girl lost under an endless sky... It just makes me feel tiny. Or maybe, I just like "space - the final frontier." :o

The last one-wow! I like the first, too. The midle two don't really do much for me, I think it's the poses/composition. I prefer the original 4th to the crop.

Apparently we're both fans of Silhouettes :]
The swing shot is by far and away my favorite. One of the better shots I've seen on these forums in recent memory. Lots of great compositional elements there. The chains form great leading lines and really draw your eyes to the child. The angle its shot at is perfect too, so that it looks less like she's swinging and almost like she's soaring right above the trees. That, combined with the awesome colors of the sunset, give it a surrealistic, dreamlike quality.
If that was my shot, I would definitely have it printed and framed!

It's been way too long since I shot these photos but thank you Plan9. It's been too long since I shot a silhouette period and I think you've inspired me to get my but in gear and try some more ..but with feeling this time, lol. I've got another shot of the swing during daylight too.

Not a fan of the feathered frame or the text, honestly, but I do like the shot itself! I think what she's wearing really adds to the shot too. Its just...fits.

So, I was just thinking about the text in the latest image...were you going for an intentional play on words with the 'Getting High' thing? Because it could be construed in the wrong way, which doesn't really fit the subject matter!

oh ya, just some play on words. I probalby wouldn't print it like that. Getting high on life, being actually really high...she does look like she's on an air ballon or something....it's kind of making me nervous now. :-P

The last one is awesome. Only the third one the sky is too dark behind her head for me. But for variety It works, especially since you got the others. Great job.
