#3 Is this guy tripping or what "look at all the pretty people"
I really love the crowd shots in this series.

Really nice series. #2 and 3 pretty much look like the way I'm editing my shots sometimes...

thanks john. i figured that shooting @ fenway would be a pretty cool experience, and it turned so. the stage was extremely high, probably 6' or so. coupled w/ the fact that the rain made the mic stand placement ~15' from the stage edge meant a potential nightmare/up the nose/top of the head shoot.
thankfully there was a 3' riser that was about 20' wide that we could stand on. the original rules were 1st three or 15 minutes, which ever came first, but we ended up only getting 10 min (which still was plenty...the band isn't the most dynamic in terms of stage movement, and Page and Jon were just about completely obscured by their keyboards and drums, respectively).
4 is great!
thanks! that was right when the sun broke through and ended the rain for good, just when they started the first song.

i have another shot or two of him smiliing, but they weren't quite as sharp as that one. i agree that the crowd was more interesting to shoot than the band, but early on we were told by the Live Nation rep to not take crowd shots.
Really nice series. #2 and 3 pretty much look like the way I'm editing my shots sometimes...
desat/contrast for the win! :D

see the 2nd word in the first post...it's a link to a review i wrote of the show. I was approved by Phish' management for the assignment.

This was an odd bump.... LOL. I can't believe I did not comment on these.
2 & 3 look a little overblown or maybe it is the desat processing that makes it look that way.... Their lights are harsh, I know.
#6 would be amazing if not for the microphone in his face, still a great image though!

unfortunately maneuverability was at a premium for this show...luckily we could stand on a ~4' platform since the stage was so high, but that platform was only from the center stage, to stage right. plus, there were ~8 shooters so moving around was not that easy.
for the highlights on 2 and 3, it's definitely part of the processing, but i think #3 was a bit cooked to begin with :D

I missed these the first time around. Looks like they built themselves a little fort out of monitors (7).
Is that sensor dust I'm seeing in #6? Never seen that in a concert photo before. ;)

good eye. i rarely see it as well, as i'm usually not stopped down to f/6.3 :D
i have the copperhill cleaning kit but am scared to use it on the 5D after hearing some horror stories...

#4 is still one of my fave shots of yours from this year Tim. Maybe because it's Fenway but it just really sets a mood.

Okay set.
Clean the sensor dust in #6 though, and brighten the lower tones in #8 a bit (audience & sky).

#4 crowd shot is really sweet!
I was thinking about shooting them when they came to Portland on Sunday even though I don't know any of their material. Apparently 17+ people were arrested and the area outside was covered in litter, hippies don't care about the environment anymore I guess :)

yeah i dig #4 quite a bit myself...i ended up getting a 20x24 print of it and have had it mounted but not framed yet. if you look closely at the right edge, you can still see some rain...the sun broke out right when the band got on stage.
constrict, i recall hearing that after the first Phish reunions shows down in Hampton VA, that there was something like $1MM in drugs seized from people arrested. crazy.

amazing in focus shots of Phish; but personally, i LOVE the crowd shots. they're such a live band... the crowd is such an important part of the performance for them. :)

Nice shots! I didn't realize they were together again. I saw them in New Orleans about 15 years ago, and it was a fun show. They weren't drawing quite so many fans back then though.
