have you ever taken a shot you just absolutely love, but then you open the file on your computer....and the eyes are Out of focus? for some reason the focus has landed on his hair even though i select single point focus and aim it directly on the pupil of his eye. rrrr. can someone help me sharpen his eyes up a bit, or is the picture acceptable?:D

that happens to me. . . upsets me . . . but then i say to myself, "even though it's not perfect, it's better to have captured the moment rather than missing it all together."

this one his eyes are focused better but he isnt looking at the camera. which do you prefer?
ok i looked at both and side by side the OOF one looks really OOF as I think i nailed the second one (imo), so the first looks pretty bad in comparison.

do you have photoshop? you might want to use the sharpen tool. I am not sure I have never tried to do that. the second shot is just fine but I do like the first one better.

Looks like the little guy will be around for at least another 17 years, so you've got some time to try your shot again... :D

shouldn't be too hard to take the eyes from the second shot and clone them onto the first shot. You can even move the eyeball over to make it seem like he's looking at the camera.

Hehe ... I thought that suggestion might come from forum member Frankenstein (pun intended  )
Best regards,

i absolutely agree. i really do try and take this hobby with a laid back attitude so i try not to bet myself up too bad if i miss the shot. its just that i wnated to include this one in my wife's mothers day present, so id like more sharpness on the eyes.
thanks for the comments :)

Thanks man. Yeah since i am uploading to the server i am only allowed 100k. gotta figure out how to use the allotted webspace i get with my isp. Congratulations on becoming a senior member!. If you could post some instructions on what you were going to do, i could do it myself, after all "you can give a man a fish and feed him for a day, teach him how to fish, and feed him for a lifetime..." lol Thanks.

LOL. only problem is he would reach for the lollipop and his hand would block the lens. i actually was holding a car directly above the lens to get his attention,. problem is he reaches for it and says "want car want car"... 2 year olds are tough subjects. :)

You didn't use your nifty fifty wide open at f1.8 for that shot, did u? Just j/k :D
the reason i ask is, I just read about the OOF problem of the 50mm f/1.8 in another thread earlier.

lmao. why yes, yes i did. I think i'm gonna have to close her down a bit in the future as the 1.8 is so marginally thin. thin DOF + 2 year old = problems.. LOL

I hate when this happens!!! Especially when it looks good on the LCD, mine always lies to me! My fav subject is a 2 y/o too. Lately I have tried to lock the pic but not have the camera in my face so i can make eye contact with him rather than looking at my LCD. It is a bit tricker but I find my 2 y/o responds better when he can see my face.
Adorable baby BTW!

Good ideas on how to caputre a 2 year old! My daughter is 18 months and she definently will NOT look at the camera. I mean I have some great shots of her not looking, but man I would like to get some of her looking too, you know?

This is a great idea... I don't think sharpening would help on an image this soft.

Did anyone take a serious look at either fo these pics before replying? Mike, you are correct, the first one stinks. The second one, however, could be on the cover of Parenting Magazine. What a great shot. Color correct that puppy and make 20" print out of it. Classic case of not being able to see the forest through the woods?
